So I was watching Leave Her to Heaven again and I noticed something, or I guess I should say someone, I really hadn't paid much attention to before. Jeanne Crain. I don't know why I didn't take that much notice of her or her radiant beauty in previous viewings of this film. Probably because you're focused more on the psychopathic antics of the ever-so-sexy-even-when-she's-homicidal Gene Tierney. In any case, for whatever reason Jeanne Crain just really stood out this time around and when I looked up her filmography I realized holy of holies I haven't seen hardly any of these!
I fail.
Does anyone have any especially good Jeanne Crain performances they can recommend?

One movie that stands out for me is the drama "Pinky"; I remember writing a paper on it for a college class years ago. Jeanne was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar.

ReplyDeleteAwesome, thanks guys! *adding to netflix queue*
ReplyDeleteFor some reason the movie "Margie" has been one of my favorites since I was a kid. I think it's one of the most charming movies - I definitely would recommend it. I just checked Netflix and couldn't find it, but that doesn't mean it can't be found anywhere else; seek it out and enjoy it! :)

"Margie" was never commercially released, but you could get it from The Yammering Magpie Cinema; they sell hard to find DVDs. I've bought movies from them and they are good quality. Also, Rupert just wrote about "Margie" on his blog Classic Movie Digest a couple days ago. He's a big fan of Jeanne's and his site might have some good suggestions!
ReplyDeleteOh that's great info - I'm definitely going to check it out.
ReplyDeleteWow nice sleuthing skills, Tom. Thanks you guys for the great tips! xoxo :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, Yammering Magpie Cinema has shut down. This is fairly recent, as they were up and running a few weeks ago. Their email address is no longer valid.
